Panavia Tornado GR.3, 617 Squadron.
20 x 30 oil on canvas. Private collection.
I’ve always been impressed with the rugged power and sense of purpose that emanates from the Tornado. This together with the numerous stunning photographs of the aircraft barrelling through low-flying training areas such as the Mach-loop inspired me to paint the ‘tonka’ down in the weeds to hopefully give some sense of the speed and brute force of this stunning machine.
The original painting was exhibited and sold at the 2013 Guild of Aviation Artists’ Annual Summer Exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London.
