Loud and Low

Loud and low
MD Phantom FGR.2, 92 Squadron.
30x22inches (71x55cm) oil on canvas.
Private collection.

I’ve always been impressed by the power and presence of the Phantom, it’s also an aircraft that to my eye just looks ‘right’ despite some of its less than complimentary nicknames. I really like the RAF camouflage schemes of this era, and in this particular case, the red and yellow chequerboard insignia of 92 Squadron really helps draw the viewer’s eye to the aircraft.

The original painting was exhibited and sold at the 2011 Guild of Aviation Artists’ Annual Summer Exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London.
