A trip to the Lightning Preservation Group at Bruntingthorpe in Leicestershire, UK for a twilight reheat run was the inspiration for this painting. The power of two Rolls Royce Avons in full reheat just a few meters away is truly breathtaking and goes to show why this iconic fighter captured the hearts of so many who flew and operated this mighty aircraft.

The original oil painting was exhibited and sold at the 2016 Guild of Aviation Artists’ Annual Exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London where it won the Sir George Edwards Memorial Plate and the Roy Nockolds Trophy and was runner-up for the Wilkinson Sword Poignard
